MT46 Network lost after deploying image

After deploying an image to a newer batch of HP MT46, the machine is unable to get any network connection

Problem:

There is a possibility on a newer batch HP MT46, when you deploy a production image or an older recovery image, the HP MT46 is unable to get any network connection. When deploying through HPDM, the image will get deployed, but is unable to finish the imaging process. This is due to a different WiFi adapter which is used in current HP MT46’s. Before covid-19 the MT46 was delivered with an Intel WiFi adapter. Because of delivery issues with the Intel adapters, HP switched to Realtek adapters. That way HP could still deliver the HP MT46 mobile thin client, when there was a big demand for mobile devices.

Resolution:

Download the Realtek adapter: Realtek Driver HP MT46

Fixing it is fairly simple:

  1. Deploy your production image to any HP MT46 of a new batch
  2. Login into the OS as Admin
  3. Open “Device Manager”
  4. Update drivers for the Realtek adapter by providing the Realtek driver
  5. Check if the driver is installed correctly
  6. Reboot the HP MT46
  7. Now you can capture the image

If installed through HPDM, after installing the Realtek driver, the MT46 will continue it’s imaging task. Let that finish just normally and after completion, capture the image. Now you’ll have an image with both Intel and Realtek network drivers.
