Master Repository Controller is not working after upgrade to 5.0

After upgrading HP Device Manager 4.7 to 5.0 (SP0, SP1 or SP2) the HP Device Manager Service can't connect to the Master Repository Controller.

When starting the console the following error message shows up:

“Error occurred when connecting to the Master Repository Controller. Any operaton requiring payload will fail.”

There seems to be a problem with the certificates which are used in the SSL communication between HP Device Manager Service and the Master Repository Controller service.

To solve this issue follow the instructions below:

  • Stop the HP Device Manager Master Repository Controller service
  • Navigate to the HP Device Manager Master Repository installation folder (i.e. C:\Program Files\HP\\HP Device Manager\MasterRepositoryController)
  • Locate the files:
    • Client.crt
    • Controller.crt
  • Copy the two files to a temporary location (as a backup)
  • Delete the two files from the MasterRepositoryController folder
  • Start the HP Device Manager Master Repository Controller service
  • Controller.crt will be recreated
  • Start the console
  • The above error will show up again
  • Click Reconnect (Client.Crt will be recreated)
  • Click OK on the following message
  • Check if Repository is working
    • Go to Gateways & Repositories in de menu bar
    • Go to Repository
    • Double click on Master Repository
    • Leave all the options as is
    • Click on “Test Repository” in the summary screen
    • Repository is tested and now fully working
